Georgetown Waterfront Park, stretching along the banks of the Potomac River from 31st Street, NW to the Key Bridge, was completed in the fall of 2011. The park links 225 miles of parkland along the Potomac River stretching from Cumberland, Maryland, to Mount Vernon, Virginia.

Hains Point Picnic Areas are located in East Potomac Park. Reservations for picnic areas are required seven days a week (Sunday through Saturday) all year-round.

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

The outside grounds of the U.S. National Arboretum (USNA) are open daily to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
The Museum’s tropical conservatory and exhibits gallery are closed until further notice.

Please note: The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum is closed in observance of all federal holidays from November through February. 
The grounds of the Arboretum are open every day of the year except Christmas Day.

With more than thirty works of art displayed year-round, the Hirshhorn Museum’s Sculpture Garden and Plaza offer visitors a contemplative haven in the heart of our nation’s capital. Comprising nearly a fourth of Joseph Hirshhorn’s initial gift, sculptures were and remain a critical aspect of the Museum’s identity, and the garden, which opened with the Museum in 1974, provides the perfect setting for a collection of modern sculpture that, at the time, was said to be “without parallel in the world.”


National Gallery of Art – Sculpture Garden

The Yards Park, a premier waterfront destination, provides green space and water features for all to enjoy the outdoors along the Anacostia River. 
This award-winning park is an ideal place for recreation and special events for the Capitol Riverfront community. 
After a year-long hiatus, the water features have now returned to Yards Park with the dancing fountains on between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm daily.

Rock Creek Park is truly a gem in our nation's capital. This 1,754 acre city park was officially authorized in 1890, making it the third national park to be designated by the federal government. 

It offers visitors the opportunity to escape the bustle of the city and find a peaceful refuge, recreation, fresh air, majestic trees, wild animals, and thousands of years of human history.

So much to do here, that you need a few outings to thoroughly enjoy it all.  Visit bunnies, chickens, peacocks, ducks, llamas, cows, ponies and sheep at  Old Maryland Farm. Bring quarters for the food dispensers to feed the birds, and the Watkins Nature Center

The Garden Centennial recognizes a century of stewardship and preservation of the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens through celebrations and exhibits. We will explore the different ways the gardens and landscape as a work of art has been utilized, with thoughts on the next hundred years. Using digitally accessible materials, curatorial newsletters, and in-person exhibitions, the Garden Centennial commemorates one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

A Destination for Recreation
At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. The Patowmack Canal offers a glimpse into the early history of this country.  Great Falls Park has many opportunities to explore history and nature, all in a beautiful 800-acre park only 15 miles from the Nation's Capital.

Brookside Gardens

Recreational options include summer ball games on the various athletic fields, tennis on both indoor and lighted outdoor courts, Tai Chi, and even ice skating in the summer at the fully enclosed Cabin John Ice Rink.

Visitors can connect with nature through a variety of environmental nature programs, become entranced by a ride on the model train, or spend the afternoon relaxing with family and friends at various picnic and playground areas. One of the special attractions for children is the Adventure Playground. Don’t miss the totem pole.

If an afternoon isn’t enough, spend the night enjoying the natural beauty of the park at one of seven walk-in campgrounds. And with over five miles of hiking and biking trails, there is plenty of scenery to explore.
